Campaign to preserve Posidonia in the Aeolian Islands
The Aeolian Islands Preservation Fund and the Blue Marine Foundation’s campaign to preserve the Posidonia Oceanica meadows of the Aeolian Islands received the patronage of the Coast Guard, the Municipality of Lipari and the Municipality of Malfa.
The aim of the project is to raise awareness to boat users and tourists on the importance of preserving the Posidonia Oceanica, the green lung of the Mediterranean Sea, a habitat protected by European Directives.
The main threats to seagrass include anchoring, pollution, ocean acidity, invasive species, global warming and coastal development. The campaign aims to inform about the importance of preserving natural habitats, and to encourage economic and tourist development that is in harmony with the natural resources present in the territory to enhance the ecosystem of the Aeolian Islands.
Posters were displayed in prominent locations around the islands.
