Lanka Environment Fund supports ecosystems conservation and responsible tourism

The Lanka Environment Fund was set up in 2019 to protect and restore this unique and magnificent country. Its strategy is to support local environmental campaigns and projects, and to foster a sense of stewardship of the island’s exceptional beauty and natural value. The LEF will also support capacity building initiatives in order to bolster on the ground support for key environmental challenges. Our first grants were approved recently and include:

  • Terrestrial ecosystem conservation, identification and establishment of forest corridors in the central highlands of Sri Lanka, using the leopard as an umbrella species.
  • A sustainability best practice guide for small and medium sized hotels in Sri Lanka was created by Nordic Sustainability, in collaboration with local stakeholders from the tourism industry. The guide aims to provide practical and solution oriented guidance towards sustainable management and operations.
