Conservation Collective and easyJet holidays Partner for Second Year

Conservation Collective has announced the continuation of its partnership with package holiday provider, easyJet holidays. The collaboration aims to support biodiversity conservation and sustainability efforts within popular Mediterranean holiday hotspots, bringing funding and awareness to Cyclades Preservation Fund, Turquoise Coast Environment Fund, and Cyprus Environment Foundation’s local sustainable tourism projects.

Protecting Posidonia Meadows in Greece

Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows, which store up 15 times more carbon dioxide every year than a similar-sized area of the Amazon rainforest, play a crucial role in marine biodiversity while also filtering the Mediterranean’s waters, giving them the vibrant blue-green hue we admire. However, these vital seagrass beds are increasingly threatened by damage from improper anchoring, pollution, and rising sea temperatures.

To help protect this vital species, easyJet holidays is partnering with the Cyclades Preservation Fund (CPF) for the second year in Santorini and Mykonos to raise awareness among tourists and tour operators about the importance of Posidonia meadows. The initiative includes providing webinar training for hotel staff on the ecological significance of this seagrass and ways to safeguard it, distributing educational materials at hotels, and in Santorini, organising ‘Snorkelling with Posidonia’ experiences in collaboration with local diving centres.

Protecting Antalya’s Rarest Wildflowers in Turkey

Turkey is a global biodiversity hotspot with over 12,000 plant species, 30% found nowhere else. Nearly 44% of its steppe habitat has been lost, putting around 1,000 endemic plants at risk. Antalya is the most plant-rich province, home to 773 endemic species, many living in the fragile habitats of Beydağları Coastal National Park.

This year-long project protects four critically endangered plants found only in this park. Turquoise Coast Environment Fund with easyJet holidays is supporting this initiative led by volunteer scientists from ANTOK, to combine research, education, and public awareness to safeguard these species and inspire local communities, visitors, and young people to protect nature.

Fish the Alien in Cyprus

The Eastern Mediterranean is being transformed by 1,000+ invasive species entering through the Suez Canal as seas warm, with Cyprus on the frontline. Native fish stocks have declined by 40–60%, and in some areas, invasive species now make up over half of the catch, often thrown away despite being edible.

Fish the Alien Phase II builds on a successful campaign to turn this threat into an opportunity. easyJet holidays, together with the Cyprus Environment Foundation, is supporting MER’s project to connect fishers, chefs, and hotels through an Invasive Catch Alliance. This project promotes invasive fish as sustainable and delicious seafood, educating the public to make responsible food choices and protect Cyprus’ marine biodiversity as part of the holiday experience.

Jade Brudenell, Executive Director, Conservation Collective:

“Our first year rising to the challenge of bringing grassroots conservation into mainstream tourism has been energising. Partnering with easyJet holidays has opened the door to a wide audience, allowing us to showcase incredible locally-led conservation initiatives and helping travellers to protect the places we know and love. From raising awareness of the ecological benefits of Posidonia seagrass in Santorini to reducing plastic in hotels and on beaches in Menorca, momentum is building. In 2026, we’ll expand our partnership through a native wildflower education campaign in Turkey and training chefs in Cyprus to prepare invasive fish species, supporting the health of local ecosystems.”

Matt Callaghan, Chief Operating Officer at easyJet holidays:

“As a major European tour operator, we have a responsibility to protect the people and places that make our holidays so special. In its first year, our partnership with Conservation Collective has already delivered measurable impact across two key destinations.

“That’s why we’re pleased to extend this collaboration as part of our Holiday Better strategy, focused on making more sustainable holidays mainstream. By supporting these brilliant organisations, we’re helping drive real impact on biodiversity in Greece, Turkey and Cyprus, ensuring the places our customers love are preserved for the future.”
