2025-2026

2025 marks the fourth year of Edmiston x Conservation Collective’s proud partnership together. Since 2022, Edmiston’s support has been instrumental in piloting and growing impactful conservation initiatives, supporting a range of community-led projects regenerating threatened and depleted marine ecosystems through CC’s Foundations in the Balearics, Greece and the Caribbean.  From helping local communities fish more sustainably to monitoring endangered sea turtles and protecting vital posidonia seagrass meadows – Edmiston supports key conservation initiatives to ensure the health of marine ecosystems for years to come.

“Many of us have been fortunate enough to have wonderful experiences connected to the marine world. Our relationship with the ocean makes it our responsibility to support change to rectify, protect and educate current and future generations on environmental issues that impact the world around us. Via our partnership with the Conservation Collective, The Edmiston Foundation will continue to fund locally-focused initiatives in the Caribbean and Mediterranean, supporting projects we greatly appreciate. We’re excited to see the projects continue to grow and evolve over the coming years.”

EDMISTON’S PROJECTS WITH CONSERVATION COLLECTIVE, 2025-2026

This year, Edmiston’s support is centred around five key initiatives with the Cyclades Preservation Fund; Ionian Environment Foundation; Ibiza Preservation, Mallorca Preservation, and Menorca Preservation; Barbados Environmental Conservation Trust, and St Vincent & The Grenadines Environment Fund.

Cyclades Care for Wildlife – Cyclades Preservation Fund

Cases of injured and stranded animals are on the rise due to disappearing habitats, underwater noise and collision with boats. When these animals are found (especially endangered ones like beaked whales or sea turtles), it is crucial that the coastal and beach authorities know what to do to provide the best care until emergency services arrive. This project aims to establish a regional information and rescue network for wildlife in need across the Cyclades.

Marine Turtle Monitoring Network – St Vincent & the Grenadines Environment Fund

In 2017, a law was passed by the St Vincent & Grenadines Environment Fund, banning the killing of sea turtles. However, through recent monitoring funded by Edmiston, it has been discovered that poaching and consumption of turtle meat and eggs continues to occur. After three years, this project has assembled a dedicated team of monitors and garnered substantial community and local government support for ongoing sea turtle conservation efforts in St. Vincent. With Edmiston’s support, this project can continue to build community benefits and help stabilise sea turtle populations. Since 2022, a growing trend in turtle nesting activity for the three main turtle species (hawksbill, leatherback and green) has been recorded, likely due to the increased surveillance of the beaches acting as deterrence agains poachers.

Calant Xarxes – Ibiza Preservation, Mallorca Preservation, Menorca Preservation

The Mediterranean is the most overfished sea in the world, with around 75% of the stocks being fished above sustainable limits. Calant Xarxes aims to find and apply solutions to end the issues of unsustainable and illegal fishing in the Balearics, through sustainable consumption and management, enforcement against illegal practices and education among fisher associations, local authorities, and consumers. So far, 64% of all fishers in the Balearics (250 boats) have been engaged in sustainable fishing through workshops focussed on traceability and awareness-raising.

Ghost Net Removal – Ionian Environment Foundation

Previous mapping and monitoring efforts co-funded by Edmiston identified priority areas for the conservation of Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows in the Ionian sea. Besides anchoring, Posidonia is heavily impacted by lost or abandoned fishing nets (otherwise known as ghost nets). This project will work with local fishers and diving schools to recover heavy fishing nets from the seabed in Corfu and other regions of the Ionian.

Digifish – St Vincent & the Grenadines Environment Fund

Having funded this project for three years in Barbados, Edmiston is now enabling its expansion into neighbouring islands St Vincent and the Grenadines. Digifish focusses on installing vessel-tracking devices on small-scale fishing boats to monitor Marine Protected Area enforcement, support marine mammal research and protection in light of a recent landmark agreement to stop the hunting of killer whales, and improve fishers’ safety at sea.

Thank you so much to Edmiston for their support. We encourage people and businesses with strong connections to any of these places, to donate funds so that we can provide more support to local initiatives, raise awareness of climate and biodiversity issues, promote collective action, and encourage communities and businesses to act more sustainably.’
