Lanka Environment Fund – launch

The Lanka Environment Fund is being set up, by a group of Sri Lankan nationals, together with some foreign home and business owners on the island, and the Conservation Collective. It will be run by local conservationist, Vinod Malwatte. Read Chairman and co-founder, Satish Selvanathan’s recent interview about the fund.

Given Sri Lanka’s recent history of the culmination of a 25-year civil war, the Easter Bombings of 2019, rapid development across the Island and geopolitical pressures, Sri Lanka has proved to be a resilient nation that has been able to propel itself to the #1 tourist destination of 2019.

However, due to the Government not being able to allocate adequate developmental funding towards protecting and restoring the local ecosystems, it is necessary for community intervention. Added to this, Sri Lanka was declared as 2019’s second most vulnerable country to changing climatic conditions.

Listed as one of the world’s 35 biodiversity hotspots, Sri Lanka plays a critical role in ensuring the globe’s biodiversity and ecosystem richness. The Lanka Environment Fund allows individuals and businesses to aid in the protection and restoration of this richness and be a part of creating a responsible, greener and cleaner Sri Lanka.
