What it Takes to Find a Sperm Whale in Turkey? – A documentary

Turkish waters are home to 12 species of cetaceans, including fin whales, sperm whales, bottlenose, common and striped dolphins, and harbour porpoises. Despite this rich marine life, the absence of stakeholder interest and public awareness is intensifying the threats to cetaceans in Turkey.

Turquoise Coast Environment Fund (TCEF) is proud to support this key project in marine conservation, specifically focusing on the Mediterranean’s flagship species, bridging the gap between research and stakeholders, and taking a multidisciplinary approach to protect these magnificent creatures.

Since 2018, the Giant Guardians of the Deep Sea project, supported by TCEF, has been carrying out dedicated research in the Eastern Mediterranean. The outcome? A recent sighting of 15 individuals, including three newborns– a glimmer of hope for this endangered species.

As a part of their vital conservation efforts, TCEF proudly presents the documentary “What it Takes to Find a Sperm Whale in Turkey?”, offering a rare glimpse into the lives of these ocean giants in Turkish waters.
