AIPF Autumn / Winter Newsletter

The Aeolian Islands Preservation Foundation recently released their December Newsletter. Among lots of exciting news, they discussed some of their ongoing projects:

  • Protection of the Grotta Caves using eco-friendly cables and buoys to prevent motorboats violating safety regulations, threatening the cave habitats. These sea caves are very important as they represent the ideal reproductive habitat of the Mediterranean Monk Seal.
  • “ConsuMAREsponsabile” is an initiative launched as part of the ongoing responsible fishing project by BLUE in Salina and Stromboli. It also promotes local fish consumption and supports local fishermen, guaranteeing freshness, sustainability and provenance at KM zero.
  • The Municipality of Lipari joined the Greening the Islands Observatory, with the support of the AIPF, setting it on a path to become a leading island in green innovation. The Task Force will be composed of all major local, regional, national, and European players who need to be involved in the transition process towards self-sufficiency and sustainability.
